Today was the day that I would attempt the 5K again, but this time with my son and Tunesia. I woke up with intentions of beating my time I walked last year of 45 minutes and introducing my son, Kevin to a new event. All was good until we were faced with our first detour. Our usual route on the freeway was closed and we had to quickly find another way to our destination. After being lost for only 5 minutes, and finding a parking spot, our next mission was to find the starting line. I could feel myself getting frustrated, but I had to remind myself that this was not just about me, but my child and Tunesia. Once Tunesia pointed out the starting line we began our journey. Thinking we were in last place we started with a slow pace, trying to regain our breathe since we had ran already to the starting line. My son with his youthful energy was not feeling the LAST place position, he soon began to walk faster. After realizing about 5 minutes within our walk that other people were behind us, we quickly picked up our pace, so we could at least keep our 10th from last place position. Even though we started late, and wasn't able to walk across the finish line because of some Major screw ups, the time spent laughing with my son and Tunesia made me feel like I accomplished more than I set out to do today. The whole experience reminded me of life itself. Life has all kind of detours making you go in different directions only to arrive at your destination later than you would have like causing you to be behind the rest of your peers. And just when you think you are finally catching up, the more experience crowd moves you from your path and are allowed to have more advantages than you. Even though you feel like giving up because you are not allowed to go across the same finish line as they are, You have to remember, that the only finish line that matters in life is the one God places in front of you.
